“Veteran Health Care Exec Tim Wentworth to Lead Walgreens into the Future

Walgreens Boots Alliance recently named veteran health care executive Tim Wentworth its new CEO. The new position was announced on Monday, December 16, 2019. The company said that Wentworth will replace Stefano Pessina, who will remain Chairman of Walgreens Boots Alliance after his retirement day. Pessina has been at the helm of the company since he became both its CEO and executive vice chairman of Alliance Boot in 2012. Wentworth, a 35-year veteran of the health care industry, is an experienced executive who currently serves as CEO of Express Scripts, one of the largest prescription benefit managers in the United States. He has previously held other executive positions at Express Scripts since 2005. Wentworth will officially take the reins of Walgreens Boots Alliance on March 15, 2020, after a transition period with Pessina. The company said in a statement that it will enter into a long-term collaboration with Express Scripts, including existing arrangements, allowing them to benefit from Wentworth’s experience in that arena as well as his leadership. The new CEO is taking on his position at a time when Walgreens is leveraging technological advancements to capitalize on a changing health care industry. He is also seen as a leader who will drive network modernization, enhance digital capabilities, and bring creative strategies that will help keep the company competitive in the long run. Wentworth is confident that with the ongoing strategic transition the company is undergoing, he will be able to make a positive contribution to the future success of Walgreens.
