“7 Pass Away in Tragic Fire at Murcia Nightclub

Seven people have died and dozens more were injured after a fire broke out in an underground nightclub in Murcia, Spain, on Saturday night. The fire started shortly before midnight at the Club Noxus in the city center. The club had been hosting a heavy metal concert when the fire broke out. According to local authorities, thick smoke began filling the club, leaving over 130 people in attendance trapped inside. In an effort to quickly evacuate the building, security personnel forced open part of a wall, allowing people to escape. Sadly, however, seven people did not make it out in time and lost their lives. In total, there have been 63 people injured, many with serious burns, and 17 of them remain in a critical condition in hospitals in Murcia and Alicante. The Regional Minister of the Presidency, Fernando López Miras, has declared two days of mourning in the region and has paid tribute to the urgent and outstanding work of the emergency services. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and a criminal investigation has been opened to look into the circumstances of the accident. Initial estimates suggest that an electrical fault is the likely source of the fire, although this has yet to be confirmed. The tragedy has shaken the city of Murcia and all of Spain, and causes us to reflect on the importance of safety regulations being met at venues of this type. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who have lost their lives in this accident.
