“Heading into a Historic 4th Presidential Year!

The United States is entering the fourth year of the Trump administration and the impact of his term in office is likely to be felt for decades to come. At the end of 2019, the president had achieved a number of victories, from reshaping the federal judiciary to fulfilling a promise to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement. But many of the president’s most ambitious plans, such as successfully dismantling Obamacare or building his long promised wall along the Mexican border have yet to come to fruition. In the year ahead, US citizens can expect to see the effects of the president’s policies on the economy, health care, foreign policy, and immigration. President Trump’s economic policies have led to an overall strong economy and record low unemployment. GDP is at its highest rate in more than a decade and consumer spending is on the rise, even in the face of a global recession. However, since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, many Americans have seen wider gaps in income inequality, with the wealthiest making out relatively unscathed while the lower classes suffer racial and economic inequality. The Trump administration has also put forth a number of health care reforms during his first term, from repealing the individual mandate of Obamacare to instituting a nationwide policy forbidding insurers from denying people coverage due to pre-existing conditions. Many of his administration’s changes have sparked debate, with the long-term impacts of the changes still to be determined. On the foreign policy front, President Trump has had a mixed record of success, from engaging in successful diplomatic dialogues with North Korea to withdrawing from international agreements, such as the Paris Climate Agreement and the Iran Nuclear Deal. The president has also attempted to solve the US’s immigration crisis, initiating several controversial policies designed to reduce illegal immigration and increase border security. Ultimately, whether a particular policy will be successful over the long-term remains to be seen, as does the impact of President Trump’s policies through four years of his first term in office and beyond. But one thing remains certain: President Trump’s fourth year of office will have a lasting impact the US and beyond for years to come.
