“Ending America’s Forever War in Ukraine: Biden, What’s the Plan?

The simmering conflict in Ukraine has now been declared an official “forever war” by the United States of America, following a decision by President Joe Biden to increase U.S. troop presence in the region. The region has been the scene of a long-running violent dispute between pro-Russian separatists and the government of Ukraine, and the situation there shows no signs of easing. The conflict began back in 2014 when pro-Russian forces first began to take control of key eastern and southern regions of Ukraine. In response, the Ukrainian government launched a military crackdown on the separatists, sparking a lengthy and deadly conflict that has cost the lives of thousands. It is believed that the separatists are backed by Russia, as evidenced by Russia’s increasing presence in the region, while the Ukrainian government is largely supported by the United States and its allies. In recent months, President Biden has decided to send more U.S. forces to Ukraine in order to strengthen the struggling country’s military capabilities. This move, along with increasing sanctions on Russia, is seen by many as the only way to try and bring an end to the conflict. However, despite increased military involvement from the U.S. and its allies, the situation in Ukraine has yet to show any signs of improvement. Pro-Russian separatists continue to pose a threat in the region and the Ukrainian government still remains weak and divided. In addition, the economic situation in Ukraine is dire, with a deep recession and severe hyperinflation looming over the nation. It now appears that the United States and its allies will be embroiled in a seemingly never-ending conflict in Ukraine, with no foreseeable end in sight. This could have a devastating impact on the already fragile Ukrainian economy as well as the political situation in the country. It also raises questions over the U.S. commitment to finding a peaceful resolution in the region, and how long President Biden will continue with the current course of action. Ultimately, the conflict in Ukraine is a complicated and messy situation that requires a carefully calibrated approach in order to achieve a lasting resolution. Unfortunately, it appears that the U.S. and its allies are now officially committed to a “forever war” in the region, and this decision has serious implications for the future of the conflict. Only time will tell how this will end, but one thing is for sure – it won’t be anytime soon.
